***The CALERIE^TM sample repositories have been relocated to the NIA. *** Please note that the samples are retained at the NIA Aging Research Biobank and the numbers below reflect sample numbers at the time of transfer to the NIA Aging Research Biobank. Prior to funding requests, please contact the NIA Aging Research Biobank for a letter confirming sample availability.

The main CALERIE^TM protocol called for samples of blood, urine, and tissue to be procured for repository storage in the following quantities: 

Some of the aliquotting of samples was be performed at the field centers; the remainder occurred upon arrival at our laboratory.  Regardless of location, the personnel entrusted with this responsibility were appropriately trained and demonstrated competence in the application of the aliquotting procedure.  Most of the aliquots for storage measured either 0.5 ml or 1.0 ml volumes.  

* Note: some baseline, 12-month; and 24-month arterialized plasma samples were collected from a hand vein using a hot-box chamber.  These samples were used only for determination of plasma catecholamine concentrations and were not used for any other purpose.  None of these samples remain in the biorepository.  All other samples used for other analyses and for future use were collected under standard conditions.

CALERIE^TM SAMPLES: Numbers of participants with at least one stored sample of the type and at the times indicated.
